Below is a Weekly Bible reading plan that we have found to be very effective in turning your heart toward God. The key is commitment to the program, stay consistent, and don't quit!
Before you begin, there are a couple of guidelines you need to follow for this to have the most power and effectiveness in your life ...
- Pick a specific time of the day (e.g., morning before breakfast) to invest in this. Stay consistent. Don't allow yourself to "fudge" a little on the timing.
- Have your Bible, a notepad and pen ready before you begin.
- Take a moment and pray. Quiet your heart before God and humbly ask Him to teach you from His Word. Ask Him to help you be receptive and responsive to what He reveals to you.
- Each week you will stay in one passage of Scripture all seven days. This is by design. Usually the greatest treasures are buried the deepest. Just scanning a passage once or even twice is fine, but you will probably miss some of the deep truths God wants you to discover. That is why you will read the same passage every day for an entire week.
- Each day, write down in your notepad whatever verse or verses stand out to you. Write the verse out entirely. Then, under the verse, write out why that verse spoke to you. Journal your thoughts. If, during the course of a week, the same verse jumps out to you multiple times, write it out every time, and journal why it stood out to you.
- At the end of each week, sit down with your accountability partner (or spouse) and review your journal.
